Our Receding Head Press (RHP) machine is a pivotal part of our manufacturing process. This large beam press features a cutting head that moves back and forth, stamping down onto bespoke tooling to create finished products of precise size and shape.
The RHP boasts a large cutting bed, allowing us to manufacture gaskets in one seamless piece, with sizes up to 1800mm x 1000mm.
Tooling for the RHP is typically custom-made. While the tooling itself is affordable, the size of the parts can sometimes make it slightly more expensive than smaller gasket shapes. Tooling is placed inverted on the cutting bed, with the blade facing upwards. Base materials are positioned on top, the machine is set, and with a press of the button, the cutting head moves forward, stamping the material to match the shape of the tooling beneath. After cutting, the gasket is removed, excess material discarded, and the process is repeated until the required quantity is produced.
The RHP can accommodate a variety of base materials, including neoprene, EPDM, neoprene sponge, flexible PVC, silicone sponge, and cork gaskets. Given its size and cutting capacity, the RHP is especially useful for large-scale gasket production, such as gaskets for cold storage solutions or lighting housings, where single-stamped pieces are essential to avoid light bleed.
Thanks to the machine’s quick setup capabilities, our technicians can prepare it in just minutes, keeping setup costs low and passing the savings on to our customers through more affordable part prices. While the larger cutting head and slower cutting speed are better suited for low-volume runs, the RHP excels in producing small batches of bespoke gaskets.
Before being shipped in bulk, all gaskets produced on the receding head press undergo rigorous in-process and final quality checks to ensure they meet the highest standards and exact specifications.
