Manual fly press stamping has been a cornerstone of UK manufacturing for decades. At RH Nuttall, we proudly operate a fleet of 20 manual fly presses, some of which date back over half a century, a testament to their exceptional engineering and durability.
The manual fly press is a straightforward yet highly effective system. A main press housing is mounted onto a cutting table, containing a vertical ram that determines the cutting depth. A metal handle at the top of the ram is moved back and forth to adjust the height. Precision-engineered male/female steel fly press tooling is then inserted, secured to the correct depth, and ready for stamping. Base materials are fed through the tooling, which punches out washers in the exact shape and size required.
At RH Nuttall, we house an extensive collection of over 2,000 precision-hardened steel tools, allowing us to accommodate most washer sizes from stock tooling. For bespoke designs, we can manufacture custom press steel hardened tooling within approximately 14 working days.
We currently produce over 1,000,000 washers per week, solidifying our position as the UK’s leading manufacturer in the cut and stamped washer trade. Our large inventory of raw materials—including red vulcanised fibre, nylon, felt, cork, rubber, neoprene, sponge, PTFE, and more—is processed in-house, ensuring rapid turnaround times and superior quality control.
