The materials we use to manufacture sponge rubber pads

Our team uses a multitude of base materials when manufacturing bespoke sponge rubber pads. Depending on the intended application, customers often ask us to produce the pads from one of the following base materials:

  • EPDM sponge rubber pads: slightly cheaper than neoprene, EPDM is great with water and in outdoor applications due to its ability to age well
  • Neoprene sponge rubber pads: these are more expensive than their EPDM counterparts, but are perfect for applications that require resistance to fuel and oil.
  • Neoprene/EPDM Blend sponge rubber pads: offering the best of both worlds, these pads feature the two key base materials.
  • Silicone sponge rubber pads:  recommended for high-end use due to great temperature prevail.

All of the above base materials offer their own, individual characteristics, be it simple cushioning, packaging or gap filling, right through to the more advanced oil and grease sealing applications. This enables the sponge rubber pads we manufacture and supply to be put to use in a huge variety of situations. Our range of silicone sponge pads are used most frequently in high temperature environments such as within the construction of cookers and hobs.

Neoprene pads and EPDM pads, on the other hand, can be found in use throughout the construction, packaging and automotive industries. With over one-hundred-and-fifty years’ of knowledge buried deep within our Birmingham-based team, we’re able to select the absolute best material to suit your specific requirement, whatever it may be.

The vast majority of the sponge pads we manufacture are produced in either white sponge rubber or black sponge rubber.

Thicknesses of sponge rubber pads

Characteristics and uses of sponge rubber pads

Our sponge rubber pads are manufactured in what is known as a ‘closed cell structure’.

Closed cell sponge pads are often used for protection, insulation and within applications that require reliable cushioning. Available in plain or with a self-adhesive backing, they are incredibly durable, long lasting and easy to work with.

Similar to a mass collection of blown-up balls, the closed cell structure of our pads doesn’t allow anything to pass through, thus acting as a barrier to dust, fluids and even sound. Our closed cell sponge rubber pads therefore make excellent weather seals, gap fillers, case liners and eaves fillers.

Our closed cell sponge pads come in a range of densities, depending on the compression of seal required. Although the majority of our base materials are stocked in a medium density which offers a moderate compression on touch, we are well versed in supplying pads in both low and high variants, too.

We also manufacture large volumes of sponge pads that are used throughout the merchandising trade, with mouse mats and desk mats able to be produced to bespoke sizes and colours.
