Thermal Insulations

Thermal insulators refer to materials used to reduce the rate of heat transfer. Materials supplied by RH Nuttall Limited range quite considerably depending on the application. Closed cell foam based products, ceramic paper products (Fibrefrax) as well as mineral paper products form the bulk of our range. Ceramic parts can even have foil applied to further help in the insulation process. RH Nuttall Limited produce a host of ceramic washers, ceramic gaskets, ceramic seals, ceramic insulations and ceramic strips in the following materials. For further information on our range of foam based insulation components, please click here.

Ceramic Blanket

RH Nuttall produce a range of insulations in Blanket. Blanket is a strong, lightweight flexible material made from long ceramic fibres needled together.

It is a highly efficient insulator for use up to 1260°C and has a very low heat storage capacity and a total resistance to thermal shock. Higher grades of ceramic blanket are available that take temperatures of 1425°C.

Ceramic blanket insulations resist against attack from most corrosive agents, except hydrofluoric and phosphoric acids and concentrated alkalies.

It resists oxidation and if becomes wet due to contact with water, steam or oil, its thermal properties are restored on drying.

Our range of insulating gaskets can be supplied in a variety of densities and in thicknesses from 6mm up to 50mm in specific increments.

 Ceramic Board

Insulations can be manufactured by RH Nuttall Limited in high strength ceramic board material. These insulations have a good high temperature stability and a very low thermal conductivity. They are unaffected by most forms of chemical attack, with the exception of hydrofluric acid and concentrated alkalies. It also has excellent resistance to oxidisation. Three grades of ceramic board insulations are offered by RH Nuttall ranging from 1260°C to 1600°C.

Insulations of this nature can be foiled or sprayed to encapsulate dust as well as for aesthetic purposes such as fire back surrounds in houses.

Glass Needlemat

RH Nuttall Limited supply insulations in glass needlemat. Needlemats (nonwoven materials) are flat textiles made from single fibres, held together by their own adhesion, strengthened by a mechanical process. Our range of insulations take temperatures up on 450°C and come in thicknesses of 5mm and 12mm. Other thicknesses are available on special order.

These can be wrapped around a number of components of a product to protect it from excessive heat transfer. For example, around the inner cooking area of a domestic oven. The material can be aluminium foil backed to further enhance the insulation process.

 Ceramic Paper

Ceramic paper is a versatile material that can be used for insulations or gaskets in a variety of applications. Ceramic paper is a high purity insulating material made from alumino silicate refractory fibres. Our standard range of ceramic papers take temperatures up to 1260°C and are available in thicknesses of 1mm up to 10mm. Higher temperature ceramic paper based products are available which take temperatures up to 1400°C, and come in standard thicknesses of 1mm to 3mm. A self-adhesive can be applied to any ceramic paper product.

Mineral Paper

Mineral paper is a versatile material that can be used for insulations or gaskets in a variety of applications. Mineral paper is a low shot insulating product made from high purity mineral fibres. Our standard range of mineral papers take temperatures up to 1000°C and are available in thicknesses of 1mm to 6mm. A self-adhesive can be applied to any mineral paper based product.

ER Glass Paper

ER Glass paper is a high strength high purity glass paper made from acid resistant Borosilicate “E” glass. Our standard range of ER Glass paper products take temperatures up to 500°C and are available in thicknesses of 1mm up to 4mm. A self-adhesive backing can be applied to any ER Glass based product.
