PTFE is a synthetic fluoropolymer which lends itself to a vast array of applications.

PTFE, is a white solid at room temperature, with a density of around 2.2g/cm³, and a melting point of 327°C. It displays working temperatures ranging from -200°C to +260°C. It is used in PTFE washers, PTFE strip or PTFE gasket forms across a broad spectrum of industries including construction, automotive, food and electrical.

RH Nuttall Limited produce washers, gaskets, seals, strip and sheet PTFE for a variety of applications.

General Characteristics

  • Low coefficient of friction -the second lowest of any solid material. PTFE is suitable for most moving parts allowing them to glide over surfaces smoothly and with less effort. Suitable for bearings, gears and most sliding parts.
  • Excellent dielectric properties – one of the best thermally established and non-conducting plastic materials making it suitable for electrical insulators in circuit boards.
  • Good chemical resistance – PTFE is chemically inert and non-toxic and is used in chemical laboratories for containers, and stirrers where in contact with strong acids. It is solvent resistant up to 300°C.

PTFE washers and PTFE gaskets can be supplied not only in its virgin state, but also with carbon and/or glass inserted into it leaving the finished product more durable and able to withstand even higher temperatures.
