You ca use strip rubber to weatherproof your home. It can line your cellar or attic, deterring pests. You can use it on flooring, or to exclude draughts along the bottom of doors. Commercially, strip rubber might be used in construction, to build playgrounds or to protect shelters from weather extremes. Strip rubber can insulate, soak up sound, and prevent damage. It is no wonder that the UK produces rubber products worth over €4bn every year. Some of that starts with strip rubber produced right here at RH Nuttall.
The developed world first discovered rubber when they were exploring a South American rainforest and first came across the rubber tree. Unfortunately, you could not get rubber trees anywhere else in the world. Estimates are that the natives used rubber for generations before that, possibly back as far as the Mesopotamian era.
In 1876 a British explorer named Henry Wickham stole more than 70k of Brazilian rubber tree seeds. He brought them back to London, where he sowed them in Kew Gardens. The first British rubber trees grew there, but Britain does not have a climate conducive to rubber tree growth. Instead, the trees were sent off around the world, prompting the first rubber tree plantations and the beginning of hundreds of years of rubber manufacturing.
Strip rubber came later. Rubber was not vulcanised until halfway through the 19th century. While the Europeans were stealing rubber seeds, the Americans were already treating it to produce a finished product that did not retain the stickiness of natural rubber. Once this process was perfected, manufacturers could cut strips from rubber, suitable for use in building, sound proofing, weather proofing, and protection.
Over the past few years RH Nuttall Limited have invested heavily in new, state of the art, slitting equipment allowing them to produce rubber strip for a vast range of different industries which include construction, glazing, electronics, and automotive trades. Rubber weather-stripping is the process of sealing openings such as doors, and windows, from the environmental conditions.
The function of weather-stripping is to prevent rain and water from entering by either blocking it outright or by blocking most of it and returning or rerouting it. Furthermore, rubber weather-stripping supplied by RH Nuttall Limited has a further advantage of keeping interior air in, and therefore saving energy with heating and air conditioning. Rubber strip can be supplied in a solid state or as an expanded foam rubber depending on the application.
RH Nuttall Limited have the facility to apply a self-adhesive backing to any rubber strip product we produce. Furthermore, rubber can be supplied as strip in both solid and expanded states dependent on customer requirements. You can buy solid rubber strips with adhesive backing or expanded rubber strips with adhesive backing from our Birmingham based manufacturing plant.
We also manufacture all rubber wear strips for snow ploughs. These can be made to any thickness, width, and length to suit your appliance. Rubber wear strips are crucial to the longevity of the snow plough blades.
Our stripping facilities allow us to produce rubber tape or plain rubber strip in coils to any given length and from widths of 4mm upwards and thicknesses from 1mm up to 40mm. Furthermore, most base materials are held in stock and therefore our rubber strip products can be turned around immediately.
