Nylon

RH Nuttall Limited manufacture and is a leading supplier for a variety of nylon washers, nylon gaskets, nylon seals, nylon plates, nylon insulations and nylon strips. All shapes and sizes of nylon washers and nylon gaskets are die cut in house from an extensive range of tooling. We frequently manufacture nylon washers and nylon gaskets both on low and high volume runs, so whatever your requirements we are able to deliver. Nylon is made from from diamine and a dicarbolic acid. Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers known generically as polyamides. Nylon is the most commonly used polymer. There are many different variants of nylon with nylon 6 and nylon 66 being the most common used. Nylon is a thermoplastic gloss finished material used by us for its excellent abrasion resistance and low friction qualities. Nylon also has a good resistance to heat as well as a good impact strength making ideal for spacers and packers in a variety of applications. Traditional more expensive metal parts with low to medium stress levels have since been superceded by more economical nylon components. Nylon Packers and Nylon Spacers are widely used throughout all construction applications.

In addition to the above excellent properties that nylon has, it is also available in a glass filled variant as well as molybdenum filled variant to aid in certain applications. Glass is generally added to aid in high temperature, structural properties, impact strength and rigidity applications, whereas nylon has a molybdenum filler when a moving part requires extra secretion of fluid for lubricity without the need for manually adding a lubricator to the part.

Please be aware that nylon is a hygroscopic material meaning it will absorb water and in certain cases this can alter the material's properties as an insulation, as well as effect its tensile strength and stiffness.

General Characteristics

• Durable and strong -  Nylon has a high impact strength as well as abrasion resistance making a suitable material for parts such as gears and bearings. 
• Good chemical resistance - Nylon has a good resistance to most oils and greases and resists a wide spectrum of fuels and chemicals. Nylon is inert to biological attack. It will not be affected by insects, fungi, mold or mildew. However, its resistance to acid is basic, but normal detergent products shouldn't affect it.
• Good electrical properties - Nylon has adequate electrical properties for most voltages.
• Good resistance to creep and cold flow - Nylon has a good resistance to both of these compared to most other thermoplastic materials.

Our range of nylon components can be supplied generally in black or white colours depending on thickness and grade required. However, nylon 66 has the capabilities to be dyed if a washer or gasket requires it for any reason.
