Acetal / Delrin

Acetal, also known as delrin, is formed by polymerizing anhydrous formaldehyde to form an oxymethlylene chain. Acetal is used by RH Nuttall Limited to produce a variety of Acetal washers, Acetal gaskets, Acetal seals, and Acetal strip. Acetal is very strong and rigid and exhibits good chemical resistance. Acetal is also a tough material with good dimensional stability, and a low coefficient of friction and therefore lends itself to a multitude of applications including gears, locks, and liners. Acetal has an operating temperature range of -40 to +80°C, with a tensile strength of 8,800 psi, and a melting point of 160°C. Furthermore, Acetal has an excellent resistance to oils and alcohols, but a displays a poor resistance to acids. Adhesive backing can be applied to one or both faces if needed.

General Characteristics

• Low coefficient of friction - Acetal is suitable for most moving parts allowing them to glide over surfaces smoothly and with less effort. Suitable for bearings, gears and most sliding parts.
• Strong and rigid - Acetal is a very tough and durable material lending itself to applications where abrasion of parts is high. It provides very good wear strip material.
• Good chemical resistance - Provides a strong resistance to oils which is important for many applications where lubricating fluid is essential including bearings.
